The Process to Install & Connect an Electrical Meter

A.Applying for Construction Power (Temporary Service) Step 1- Contact AEP Texas a t 1-877-373-4858 to apply for a new meter installation for Temporary Service, and obtain an Electric Service ID number or "ESI ID." This is a 17 digit number starting with 100327894XXXXXXXX. Make sure to provide a correct address, contact name and phone number depending on location, step 2 may be to apply for a permit from city or county. Step 2- Wait a minimum of 2 days to allow the "ESI ID" to be established at ERCOT and then call a Retail Electric Provider of your choice and request a meter installation for Temporary Service. You should request the install date to coincide with the completion date of the electrical inspection by the city or county. Make sure to provide you "ESI ID" number and correct address, city and zip code number. Step3- AEP will then schedule the work to be performed after receiving an order from the Retail Electric Provider and receiving an electrical permit from the city or county. If distribution lines are already in the area and only service cable needs to be installed, AEP will make every effort to perform the work within 10 business days of the requested date. If distribution lines are no in the area, AEP will notify the customer of construction time and cost to build new lines. B.Applying for New Permanent Meter Installation Step 1- Contact AEP Texas at 1-877-373-4858 to apply for a new meter installation for Permanent Service, and obtain a new Electric Service ID number or "ESI ID." (Note: This will be a different number from your Temporary ESI ID). Make sure to provide a correct address, contact name and phone number depending on location, step 2 may be to apply for a permit from city or county. Step 2- Wait a minimum of 2 days to allow the "ESI ID" to be established at ERCOT and then call a Retail Electric Provider of your choice and request a meter installation for Permanent Service. You should request the install date to coincide with the completion date of the electrical inspection by the city or county. Connecting an Existing Meter Step 1- Select a Retail Electric Provider of your choice and request connect for an existing meter. Make sure to provide your "ESI ID" number and correct address, city and zip code number depending on location, step 2 may be to apply for a permit from city or county. Step 2- AEP will then schedule the work to be performed after receiving an order from the Retail Electric Provider and receiving and electrical permit (by the city or county).
