WESLACO, Texas – The Economic Development Corporation of Weslaco has announced the appointment of Hector Solis to its board of directors.

Solis was appointed by the City Commission in November 2024 and can serve up to two three-year terms.

Sandra Charlton, EDCW’s board president, described Solis as a visionary leader with an unwavering commitment to progress. She said he has dedicated his career to fostering growth, resilience, and innovation – qualities that align seamlessly with the EDCW’s mission.

“The EDCW Board of Directors and staff enthusiastically welcome Hector Solis and we look forward to the transformative impact of his leadership and business knowledge,” Charlton said.

A press release from EDWC gave some details of Solis’ career.

“Solis’ journey into entrepreneurism began in 2004, where he built his career from the ground up, gaining firsthand experience as a truck driver. With over 15 years behind the wheel and an intimate knowledge of the transportation sector, he laid the foundation for what would become Providence Transport LLC in 2009.”

For his part, Solis said he firmly believes in Weslaco’s strategic importance as a regional hub. He said it has the potential for additional growth and retention. He said that by fostering an environment of collaboration and innovation, he aims to ensure that Weslaco remains a beacon of opportunity for generations to come.

“One of my priorities, is to enable the EDCW staff to seek the tools and resources they need in order to offer targeted workshops, seminars, and programs that will support entrepreneurs and established companies alike,” Solis said, as he laid out his goals for the corporation.

Steven M. Valdez, EDCW’s executive director, said that beyond his professional achievements, Solis is deeply invested in the community he calls home. He said Solis’ passion for giving back and his understanding of the unique challenges faced by local businesses make him an ideal fit for the Weslaco EDC Board.

“As a small business owner in Weslaco, we are confident that Solis will not only bring a wealth of business sharpness but will be an advocate for local businesses and growth,” Valdez said.

Solis’ appointment represents not just a new chapter for the organization but a step forward in realizing its vision for a prosperous and sustainable future, Valdez added.
